Day 1

Surgical Knots & Two-Handed Tying

Day 1 introduces the fundamentals of surgical knot tying, beginning with two-handed ties as a technical exercise. You’ll also get an overview of what to expect from the course and a look at our custom-designed suture practice kit.

Day 2

One-Handed Tying & Suture Materials

We will build on the previous day's skills by introducing one-handed tying. You'll also dive into your kit, understanding needles, suture materials, packaging, and instruments—foundational knowledge for the hands-on practice ahead.

Day 3

Instrument Handling & Instrument Tying

We will focus on proper instrument handling and the technique of instrument tying. You’ll also learn principles of tissue handling and essential tips, such as working with short suture ends and how to correctly grasp a needle.

Day 4

Simple Interrupted Sutures

Day 4 brings it all together as you begin practicing your first suture: the simple interrupted suture. You’ll also learn key concepts like wound closure principles, proper stitch spacing, halving the wound, and how to lock your stitch effectively.

Day 5

Advanced Sutures

We will introduce more advanced techniques, including vertical and horizontal mattress sutures, half-buried horizontal mattress, and the three-point suture. You’ll also get practical tips for managing tricky situations like bent or broken needles.

Day 6

Deep Sutures & Subcuticular

Day 6 takes you deeper—literally—with a focus on deep sutures and how to bury a knot. You'll also learn continuous and locked running sutures, including the subcuticular technique. Additional tips help refine your approach, from using finger rests to maintaining ideal posture and distance.

Day 7

Suture Removal & Emergencies

We wrap up with a focus on suture removal and managing real-life scenarios like tying in drains or catheters. You’ll also learn how to handle complications with techniques for placing key sutures, addressing dog ears, and managing standing cones.
